3D Puff Digitizing Service for Raised Lettering That Pops
You ordered puff embroidery and the sample came back flat. Or the letters stood up but foam peeked through the edges, and picking the leftover bits out took longer than the stitching. We hear it every week. The foam was never the problem. The digitizing was.
Puff only looks right when the stitch file is built for foam from the very first stitch: wide satin columns, full edge coverage, and a path that perforates the foam so it tears away clean. Building that file by hand is what our 3d puff digitizing service does. For 13 years we have turned logos and lettering into puff files that sew raised, crisp, and consistent.
Every order includes a free mockup, a flat quote before we start, and revisions until the file sews the way you pictured it. Send your artwork today.
What 3D Puff Digitizing Is
3D puff digitizing is the process of converting artwork into a stitch file built for foam, where wide satin stitches trap a foam layer under the thread so the design rises off the fabric.
On the machine, foam goes over the fabric before stitching starts. Dense satin columns sew over it, and the needle perforations let you tear the excess away after. This is 3d embroidery digitizing at its most physical, with thread, foam, and fabric working as one system.
A flat embroidery file cannot do this job. Standard density leaves foam visible between stitches, narrow columns let foam push through, and wrong pathing turns tear away into a picking job that eats your afternoon. Puff embroidery digitizing plans for all of this before a single stitch runs.
3D Puff Digitizing Options We Handle
Puff is not one single technique. Foam thickness, garment type, and design size all change how the file should be built. Our digitizing services cover the puff jobs shops ask for most.
Cap puff lettering
The classic puff job. Raised team names and logos on structured caps, built for the center seam and curved sewing field so the puff stays even. Pair it with our cap digitizing service for flat elements on the same cap.
Jacket back puff
Big raised designs for varsity and work jackets, with stitch order planned to keep large areas smooth and tear the foam away clean.
Beanie and knit puff
Soft stretchy knits need gentler density and smart underlay so the puff rises without puckering.
Puff numbers and varsity letters
Sports numbering in the bold shapes puff does best. Consistent height and clean edges across every digit.
Puff and flat combos
Raised puff lettering over flat fill areas or detail too small for foam, sewn in the right order. Puff also pairs well with applique for large bold shapes.
Foam matched to design
Thin foam for small lettering, thick foam for bold statements. We match foam thickness to your design and tell you exactly what to buy.
Every foam embroidery digitizing project starts with your artwork and ends with a file matched to your foam, your fabric, and your machine.

What Affects Your 3D Puff Digitizing Service Price
Puff files take more planning than flat files, and the price reflects the work involved. Five things move the number.
Design size and stitch count. More stitches mean more digitizing time. A four inch chest design takes more work than a two inch cap logo.
Foam thickness and layers. Thicker foam and stacked layers need wider columns and more careful pathing, which adds digitizing time.
Detail and small text. Puff has hard limits on small lettering, and fine detail takes careful manual work. The quote reflects that.
Garment type. Structured caps, stretchy beanies, and heavy jackets each need different settings, and tricky garments take more planning.
Turnaround needs. Standard timing keeps the price down. If you ever need a true rush, ask and we will quote it honestly.
Simple, Flat Quotes
Files arrive digitally, there is no shipping cost and no courier to wait on.
Who Orders Our 3D Puff Digitizing Service
Not every design sews the same way. A left chest logo needs different settings than a full back design, and a cap needs different settings than a flat jacket. Our digitizing services cover the jobs shops ask for most.
Embroidery Shops
You run the machines and keep the customers. We handle the tricky puff digitizing so you can say yes to raised designs, no trial and error needed.
Streetwear Brands
Raised lettering is a streetwear staple. We digitize your graphics for puff so your drops look premium, not homemade.
Sports Teams and Schools
Puff numbers, mascot names, and varsity lettering with consistent height and clean edges across the whole roster.
Hat and Cap Embroiderers
Puff was born on caps. You get cap specific files that handle the curve, the center seam, and the foam in one planned file.
Promotional Product Companies
Puff gives promo caps and beanies a high perceived value, with clean files that sew well from snapbacks to knit beanies.
3D Puff Digitizing FAQs
3D puff embroidery, also called puff embroidery, is a technique where foam goes under the stitching so the design rises off the fabric. The machine sews dense satin stitches over the foam, then you tear the excess foam away along the needle perforations, leaving bold raised lettering with a look flat embroidery cannot match.
Most puff work uses embroidery foam in 2mm, 3mm, or 6mm thickness. Thinner foam suits small lettering and thicker foam suits bold designs. Match foam color to thread color so any tiny bit that peeks out stays hidden. Every foam embroidery digitizing order includes our foam recommendation, or ask us what to buy before you start.
Foam shows through when the satin columns are too narrow or the density is too low to trap it fully. It also happens when the foam color contrasts with the thread color. A properly digitized puff file uses wide dense columns and matched foam color so the foam stays buried. If your current file shows foam, the digitizing is the problem.
Puff needs room to work. As a rule of thumb, puff lettering should be at least a quarter inch tall, and bold simple shapes puff far better than thin delicate ones. Fine serifs and tiny detail will not hold foam, so sew them flat instead. We will tell you during the quote if any part of your design is too small for puff.
Yes, and some of the best designs do exactly that. Raised puff lettering over a flat embroidered background gives depth without the cost of puffing everything. The file must plan the sew order carefully, with flat areas first, then foam, then puff columns on top. We build combination files like this every week.
Every job is quoted flat based on size, stitch count, and complexity, so you know the exact price before we begin. Most single designs fall in a modest fixed range, and our minimum order of $10 keeps small jobs simple. There are no surprise fees after you approve.
Then we fix it. Every order includes revisions, and your free mockup lets you catch issues before production. Tell us your machine brand, garment, and foam thickness when you order so the file fits your setup from the start. If a sew out misbehaves, send a photo and we will adjust the file precisely.
Most 3D puff designs are digitized within [TURNAROUND TIME] of artwork approval. Your free mockup usually arrives first, so you can approve the look early. If you have a firm deadline, tell us up front and we will give you an honest answer about whether we can meet it.
